67% of electricity bills in Ho Chi Minh City are paid through e-wallets

Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation continues to promote non-cash payments, aiming to 2025 that no customers will pay electricity bills directly in cash. 12.07% of customers choose to pay via SMS & Mobile Banking, accounting for 11.91% of their electricity bill and 8.47% of total electricity bill.

On April 28, at the Meeting of Gratitude for Electricity Payment Partners and 2021 Financial Partners of Ho Chi Minh City Electricity Corporation (EVNHCMC), Mr. Nguyen Phu Vinh, Head of Sales Department of EVNHCMC, gave know that non-cash payment is a common trend of society.

In 2020, 68.3% of electricity customers in Ho Chi Minh City choose to pay via e-wallet (including paying cash at the intermediary’s counter and paying via personal wallet), accounting for 67% of the total electricity bill and 37.66% of the amount.

12.07% of customers choose to pay via SMS & Mobile Banking, accounting for 11.91% of their electricity bill and 8.47% of total electricity bill; 8.45% of customers choose to pay via internet banking of the bank, 8.51% of customers pay via automatic debit.

Payment via ATM card / bank card, online payment via customer care website of EVNHCMC still accounts for a very modest proportion, less than 1%.

According to EVNHCMC, this unit has recently stepped up the mobilizing of people to make non-cash payments. The Corporation also expanded its cooperation with partners to provide more payment channels, creating the most favorable conditions for customers who make non-cash payments, namely cash back programs when paying for electricity via wallet, discounts when paying electricity bills of ZaloPay, ViettelPay, VNPTPay … in the past.
